Strategic overview

Their vision is to make Derby and Derbyshire smokefree by 2030, with less than 5% of adults smoking. Achieving this requires a comprehensive approach, considering all aspects of tobacco control through four operational groups:

• Prevention Group: Aims to enable children and young people to live smokefree lives
• Smoking Cessation Group: Supports individuals in quitting and staying smokefree
• Enforcement and Environment Group: Tackles illegal tobacco, underage sales, enforces legislation, and promotes smokefree environments.
• Smoking in Pregnancy Group: Supports pregnant individuals in accessing stop smoking support.

Smoking is a leading cause of preventable illness and early death, significantly impacting health inequalities. It is more prevalent among those experiencing deprivation and in certain occupations.
